Neurotoxins

There are currently 5 neurotoxins that are approved by the FDA for use:

1. Botox® Cosmetic, derived from botulinum toxin type A, works by temporarilyparalyzing targeted muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles caused by repetitive facial movements. 
2. Dysport® is similar to Botox® in that Dysport® contains botulinum toxin type A and works by blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, smoothing wrinkles.
3. Xeomin® contains pure botulinum toxin type A and functions similarly to Botox® and Dysport®, relaxing muscles to reduce wrinkles.
4. Jeuveau® is similar to its predecessors in the neurotoxin market, containing purified botulinum toxin type A. It was formulated specifically for cosmetic purposes.
5. Daxxify® is the newest neurotoxin approved by the FDA in August 2023. It utilizes a proprietary peptide technology combined with botulinum toxin type A to target facial wrinkles. The addition of this peptide can have longer lasting effects for clients, extending the efficacy by at least 6-8 weeks in most clients. Some client have effects that even last up to six months.

All five neurotoxin brands are derived from botulinum toxin type A and work by temporarily paralyzing targeted muscles to reduce wrinkles. While the basic mechanism of action is similar, variations in formulation and dosing may result in subtle differences in onset of action and duration of results.
